Tailored to: Companies & government institutions
SITE4Sustainability supports clients in creating and maintaining structural, managerial, and cultural conditions to adapt to change. Our work is guided by the principle of co-creation for client capability enhancement, meaning we work in close partnership with clients and other stakeholders to diagnose areas needing attention. We then bring design, process facilitation, and change management expertise to support the development and implementation of tailored solutions for mutual value creation.
Our areas of work span organizational and process design, business model optimization, education and skills training, technology deployment, and change management. We believe in co-creating change through participatory methods and maximal stakeholder dialogue for consensus building.
Example 1
Client: A major European Dairy Cooperative
Client’s Identified Challenges: Climate Change, European regulation, increasing concentration of markets, shifting of demand away from animal-based dairy products and the aging of the dairy farmers population, which is not getting renewed adequately.
Role of S4S: Expert Consultation. As the C-suite is totally taken by day to day operations, they decided to build a team of thinkers who have had an impact on society outside of their domain of work. Prof. Ramani is part of this ‘Thinking Group’ of 7 experts to discuss how to ensure economic viability along with societal legitimacy. A cooperative depends on voluntary inputs from a huge number of heterogeneous farmers with different capabilities, resources and cost structures. Building a shared vision is particularly challenging given the heterogeneity of the cooperative members and their emotional attachments to the land and the animals. There, as part of the experts, S4S provides ideas on: income diversification for dairy farmers, incentivization for youth to enter into this profession, role of technology and social media in marketing and finally what to communicate and how. These interactions include field visits and discussions with farmers in different regions. The project is ongoing and the executives have expressed the value of our contribution being that of making them think along new lines that they would not have imagined otherwise.
Example 2
Client: The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA)
Client’s Identified Challenge: To inform the Netherlands’ policy on humanitarian assistance, about how an enhanced funding in innovation projects could aid in bridging the humanitarian funding gap, which innovations can be seen as contributing significant value in humanitarian contexts, and how donors can maximize the impact of their funding.
Role of S4S: Expert Consultation. By conducting a systematic review of the literature, the research team analysed hundreds of of articles, reports, and policy briefs, going back to 2015, and synthesised them into a novel framework that re-envisions the humanitarian context as a holistic system. Based on this framework, we offered concrete policy-advice on which levers in the humanitarian system are particularly effective in enhancing the humanitarian system as a whole, and should therefore be considered by the MFA for additional funding, so that the impact of innovations in humanitarian contexts can be strengthened.
